Job Description

Serves as the Computed Tomography (CT)/X-ray Supervisor for Diagnostic Imaging Technologists at the Spokane VAMC with comprehensive and complex radiographic and CT imaging knowledge. The incumbent has administrative and professional responsibility for assisting, planning, and directing the CT and General X-ray staff affiliated with this medical center and outpatient clinics.

**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.) English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R) and Computed Tomography (CT) for the specialized assignment. COPY OF CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10. Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). The technologist] functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below which may include support staff. The technologist] evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. The technologist] informs higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes such as retention or release of probationary employees, and recognition of superior performance in the diagnostic radiologic area. The technologist] directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Ability to evaluate quality management procedures and processes. *Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity. *Skill in developing new policies and guidelines as needed. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Preferred Experience: Prefer minimum 3 years of X-ray and CT experience (must be ARRT (R) (CT) register) Ability to perform complex x-ray and CT exams, including angiography and building 3D reconstructions. 1 year of experience with fluoroscopy exams and surgical c-arm procedures. Preferred experience starting IVs. Prefer previous experience in a lead or supervisory role, but not required. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.), light carrying (under 15 lbs.), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, repeated bending, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid may be permitted). Environmental Factors include radiant energy, working closely with others and working alone.
