Job Description

As the leader of NHTSA's public affairs team, you will plan, participate in, and execute NHTSA's high-profile public relations engagement.

**Qualifications:**
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements. To qualify for the Grade 15, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include: Experience in developing and executing practical, operational, comprehensive media relations strategies. Experience serving as the principal advisor and primary liaison to senior leadership, managing day-to-day communications with the media and trade press representatives. Experience managing media inquiries under tight deadlines, handling high-profile and sensitive communications, and producing policy-based materials aligned with administration priorities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Planning and Organizing - Capability to plan, organize, and implement comprehensive public affairs strategies, and programs. Leadership and Supervision - Lead staff members toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Demonstrate flexibility and resilience, foster continuous improvement and innovation, develop others, foster integrity and honesty, manage performance (communicates performance standards and expectations, give time and constructive feedback, think systematically, and inspire change). Communication Skills - Ability to communicate effectively with public, media, and trade press using plain language in a succinct and organized manner, produces written information, which may include technical material that is appropriate for the intended audiences. For all types of consideration, experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
