Electronics Mechanic

This position is at the full performance level located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA GLA HealthCare System Medical Center (VAMC) in the Engineering department. The primary purpose of the position is to perform fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining Hospital electronic equipment and systems such as nurse call, code blue, fire alarm, wandering systems, SMATV, computers, Etc.

**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/21/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Electronic workers frequently lift and carry, unassisted, items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Working Conditions: Electronics workers typically work in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in aircraft or ships, in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold and outside in inclement weather. They are exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises.
