This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located within the Military Correctional Complex, USDB Sub-Facilities Branch and requires frequent, direct contact with inmates. This position has been designated as a primary/rigorous and is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC).

Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense (DOD) Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. Install, repair, and modify new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and fixtures. Overhaul, repair and maintain a variety of electrical devices and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds and frequently involves working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Working Conditions - Works inside buildings and shops as well as outside. Subject to contact with dirt and soiling of hands and clothing, to shocks and burns from voltages up to 600 volts. Subject to cuts and bruises. Employee is exposed to danger from electric shock and falls from scaffolds or ladders, and intra or ultra violet rays and fumes and gases. The work is performed in a correctional institution where the employee must be prepared to defend oneself, or others, against physical attack at all times. This position has been designated as a primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage under the provisions of title 5 USC 8336(c) and 8412(d) by DoD memorandum dated 19-Aug-2010. The maximum entry age for positions covered under this retirement is 37 years old. Retirement from this position is mandatory at age 57 with 20 years of LEO service. The maximum entry age may be waived under certain circumstances. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, MAY be reinstated. The work requires frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Regularly-assigned contacts with inmates expose the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such as verbal and/or physical attack by the inmate population.
