This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Plumber (Motor Vehicle Operator) with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Jackson, SC.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including making repairs and/or installation of water closets, tubs and showers. Work from verbal instructions only. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Works on parts of systems which are in hard to reach places. Is required to stand, stoop, band, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and places items weighing up to 40 points, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Is subject to strain from vibrations in operating a backhoe. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works primarily inside and on occasion outside, in all types of weather. Work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Is exposed to mud, water, bad smelling fumes. Is exposed to the possibility of infection from unsanitary worksites, and the possibility of cuts, scrapes, burns, broken bones, from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead; and the possibility of accidents when driving vehicles in all types of traffic and weather.
