Job Description

You will serve as a Nuclear Mechanical and Structural Systems Inspector (SHIPS) in the Nuclear Inspection Division(Code 139) , Quality Assurance Office of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. THIS IS A TEMPORARY PROMOTION, NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR; MAY BECOME PERMANENT WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Inspect as a Nuclear Mechanical & Structural Systems Inspector (SHIPS) performing duties such as: Maintaining a highly sophisticated and complex nuclear reactor plant system in accordance with critical design requirements and specifications. Performing inspections and verifying that specifications are being followed, using knowledge of all nuclear trades. Testing temporary systems and equipment after completion of work for proper flow, pressure and leak free joints. Performing reactor refueling operations, weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and Non-Destructive Testing. Interpreting diagrams, specifications, drawings and interrelated procedure and technical requirements.
