Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS) at this level are recognized as the subject matter expert in their field. All duties of an ATSS are tied to maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network of electronics systems required for the world's largest air traffic control and navigation system.
**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that demonstrates an extensive knowledge and experience of one or more of the following systems(s) and service: COMMUNICATIONS: Rapid Deployment Voice Switch (RDVS), Integrated Communication Switching Systems, (ICSS), Fiber Optic Transmission Systems (FOTS), Air to Ground Communications Equipment, Automated Weather Observation Systems, Wind Sensors, and Altimeter Setting Indicators. ENVIRONMENTAL: VISAIDS: Medium Approach lighting system, Visual Approach Slopes Indicator (VASI),Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL), Heating Venting Air Conditioning (HVAC), Boiler, Chillers and controls, Lighting Bonding and Grounding Fiber Optics Transmission System (FOTS), Engine Generator and associated, fuel tanks and switch gear, Power Condition Systems (PCS), Uninterpretable Power Systems (UPS), Runway Status Lights (RWSL), Approach Lighting System with Flashers (ALSF). NAVAIDS: NAVAIDS: Instrumental Landing Systems (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Glide slope (GS), Locator Outer Marker (LOM), Localizer (LOC), Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range Co-Located Tactical Air Navigation (VORTAC). Experience that demonstrates knowledge in technology system interrelationship, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation and electronics systems. RADAR: Airport Surveillance Radar-9 (ASR), Airport Surveillance Radar-11 (ASR), integrated Terminal Weather System (ITWS), Air Traffic Control Beacon Interrogator (ATCBl), Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE), Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR), Mode S Data Link (MODE-S). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience with two or more of the following system(s): Instrument Landing Sys (ILS), (MARK 20\20A and MARK 1F includes Capture Effect, Null Reference, Side Band Glide Slope (GS), Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) (Second Gen 9996 Conventional/Doppler), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) (Second Gen 9996, Thales 415, ASII 1118, Selex), Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN), Antennas (RTA2), Low Power TACAN (LPTA), Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) (Nautel, Southern Avionics). Also have experience with inspecting and maintaining weather systems. Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that is appropriate to the position. Experience that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of and experience in technology system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics systems. Generally, experience at the next lower level Pay Band H/level III or FG/GS-12 or equivalent, meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the demonstrated abilities identified below.
