Job Description
The Primary purpose of this position: To Lead and perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties associated with the determining eligibility, receiving, patients in support if Veterans treatment in the Mental Health (MH) Services. The Organizational location of the position: VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTXHCS) Dallas, Fort Worth or the Community-Based outpatient clinics to include Bonham, Grand Prairie, Tyler, Garland, Plano and Denton.
**Qualifications:**
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g.) Experience and Education. (1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, (2) Education. High school diploma with desire for some post high school education; OR, (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-07: Lead Medical Support Assistant. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level. Experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level includes: Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate with staff in the unit in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work. Ability to review and monitor data to ensure all reports are complete and accurate. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: i. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. ii. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. iii. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. iv. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. v. Ability to provide staff development and training. Preferred Experience: Competent with basic data management skills, especially with closing open encounters using VistA and CPRS ADPAC support services to include PIV sponsorship Advanced healthcare administrative technical skills to schedule, cancel, and delete appointments in VistA. Time and attendance skills with timekeeping in GovTA (formerly VATAS) Subject matter expertise with VA standardized policies for memo formatting, expertise with MS Word, MS Teams, and MS Excel Competent with VAgpt and/or prompting using AI Tools Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/.
