Job Description

Serves as Program Support Assistant for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS). In this capacity, the incumbent will act as administrative support coordinator for Anatomic Pathology. The Anatomic Pathology section is responsible for providing all surgical pathology and cytopathology reports at this Medical Center. The completed reports become an integral part of the patient's permanent Medical Record and are an essential component for patient care activities.

**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/17/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-06: To be qualified you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes experience where you were responsible for independently establishing priorities for accomplishment of the various responsibilities found within a multi-disciplinary department, as well as handling multiple and varied interruptions and unpredictable work assignments arising on a day-to-day basis. The incumbent must possess the skills of coping with pressure situations, frequent interruptions, and staff shortages. There is need to exercise judgement and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters and the need for diplomacy, courtesy, and tact in dealing with physicians, staff, residents, and the general public. related to clinical laboratory tests and pathology procedures. Experience with automated applications including the use of electronic mail and Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint. and the laboratory document control system. Typing Requirement. Must possess the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Preferred experience: Outpatient scheduling using ISS, Timekeeping, Sending VVC links, Utilizing Secure Messaging. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, slides, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
