Job Description

The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.

**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/15/2026. Must possess and maintain valid State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) You must have the ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) without more than normal supervision. This includes, but is not limited to: Skill and knowledge to operate vehicles over a variety of roads, including interstate highways, narrow roads, and on uneven, rough terrain; skilled in handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving all vehicles and equipment; Skill in manipulating a variety of controls and understanding equipment gauges; skilled in evenly applying fertilizer, in preparing soil mixtures, and in planting seeds and shrubs. Also skills with communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relates to internal and external customers; Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/employee information, electronic and print; the medical center performance improvement program; and how to work and function in the medical center in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Drive Safely Interpret Instructions, Specifications (mobile equipment operations) Motor Vehicles Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Reliability And Dependability Without more than normal supervision Work Practices Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work is primarily sedentary, although some physical effort may be required, e.g., walking, standing, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, and carrying light items such as manuals or briefcases, or driving or traveling by motor vehicle. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, training rooms, and libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The incumbent must also work outdoors in all types of weather. There may be occasional exposure to moderate risks or discomforts in storage areas or hazardous waste sites. Work requires arm and leg movement to manipulate equipment controls. Work also involves moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing and controlling vehicles, which carry heavier loads or large number of passengers. Frequent reaching, bending, turning, lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, climbing ladders and carrying heavy tolls, equipment and material over 50lbs is required. The position also requires periods of extended sitting. The incumbent perfom1S duties as a Motor Vehicle Operator as well as a Gardener. Approximately 75% of the incumbent's efforts will be spent as a Motor Vehicle Operator, and 25% as a Gardener.
