The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is looking for an Administrative Support Assistant (ASA) (OA) to join the Surgical Service team. The surgical administrative team is a high functioning, effective and efficient group of motivated and hard working employees. The ASA (OA) performs a broad range of clerical and administrative tasks for the designated clinical sections of the Medical Service. **Qualifications:**
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/14/2026. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: GS-06 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: manage an office budget track and compile data for reporting purposes use software applications (email, spreadsheets, databases) compose and edit correspondence and reports maintain suspense files ensuring deadlines are met maintain calendars, appointments and schedules coordinate conferences and meetings monitor office supplies and equipment Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience requirement above, applicants for this position must show possession of the following skills: 40 words per minute typing speed. Preferred Experience: Working in a medical setting, excellent customer service, ability to multi-task and skills with Microsoft word and excel. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
