This vacancy is for a Cartographic Technician position in the National Processing Center located at the U.S. Census Bureau National Processing Center in Jeffersonville, IN. Specialized Experience: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 04 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience assisting with research, evaluation, and ordering of geographic reference materials; using a computer workstation to allocate map spots and feature/address information to specified geographic tabulation areas. OR Education: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 18 semester hours in courses such as those shown above for GS-3. Examples of acceptable courses include cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Not more than 9 of the 18 semester hours should have been in mathematics or statistics. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
