Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & MRTFB in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Machinist Apprentice ~ without more than normal supervision which includes the possession of mechanical aptitude for understanding and using machines or tools; and willingness to learn. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Frequent handling of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds, however, hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in lungs, cuts, bruises, and injuries to the hands from the use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and subject to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
